Starting January 1, 2024, Illinois employers will be required to provide notices via email or conspicuous posting on the employer’s website or intranet site to employees who do not regularly report to the physical workplace. For employers that plan on using their company’s website or intranet, it will have to be freely accessible to all employees and regularly used to communicate information with employees. Employers who do not plan on obtaining or using a company website or intranet for this purpose should be prepared to send notices to relevant employees through email.
Additionally, a change to the Personnel Record Review Act will require employers to send employee records via email when requested by the employee. As in, when an employee makes a written request for their personnel records to be emailed to them, the employer must do so.
